Comfortable With Being Comfortable

The country lanes this time of year are some of my most absolute favourite! They are often lined with wild bluebells and cows parsley, both flowers I am particular fond of and I count myself rather lucky if I get a sighting of them. If I could set up a chair in the middle of one of these verges and hit play on Lana del ray or Zach Bryan, I’d be a happy girly. All that white and green brings out nothing but peace and happiness in me.

This spring, my style has definitely been about comfort, basics and pieces that feel easy and effortless to wear. I remember as a kid, I would love all the trendy clothes and they would often be the clothes that my mum would buy for me (under my guidance) but, it was always leggings, old cosy tees and sweaters I would often reach for the most and this is not too far away from how I feel now just less leggings but with definitely an emphasis on comfort. For a long time I have had an interest in phycology and the way our brain works and as a side note often wondered about how our phycological state affects our sartorial choices. And not only our phycological selves but our spiritual selves and our astrological selves, surly it plays some kind of aspect into our clothing choices, or at least that’s what I wonder about.

My sun is in Cancer and if nothing else we cancerians are creatures of comfort but that’s not to suggest that we lack taste, style or flare, we just like to feel an element of comfortability whilst being our stylish selves! Before I go further I feel as though I should clarify that I am not someone who is married to the idea that astrology defines who I am, lots of things like life experiences, DNA, the way I was nurtured all go into the stirring pot of who I am but I can’t deny that I enjoy astrology and it’s helped me to understand aspects of myself, which I’m thankful for. Not only do I feel that the Cancerian part of me seeks comfort but I think living with a condition called m.e for a lot of my life has taught me the importance of energy and in this particular case, energy conservation and how and where I should and shouldn’t distribute it. When I was younger I experimented with clothes and because I spent a lot of time trying to escape the condition I was living with, I refused to take into consideration the impact of wearing something as simple as high heels and how they could effect my energy levels. Whereas now, I’m so aware of all those little energy takers, the extra concentration it takes to walk in heels, mostly because I’m so unnatural at walking in them, which could be due to my little feet, I’ve often found it tricky to find heels that fit me properly!

Aside from that, if there are any mums reading this, you may relate but I definitely became more attuned to my sensory’s when I became a mum. We have enough going on when adapting to the pace of parenthood, that fixing our outfits and feeling irritated by an uncomfortable piece of clothing just ends up feeling like a needless addition to our already overloaded sensory system. Beyond this and I don’t know whether you agree, but I just feel more self aware and present when I feel more comfortable in what I am wearing because I’m not distracted by something being too tight, my feet hurting, my skirt riding to high or a boob making an unscheduled appearance!

Or is that we choose simplicity in our clothing because there are parts of our lives that feel like chaos and though we cannot always control the amount of chaos that is happing within or around our lives, we can control our clothing choices. Or could there be something in the theory that the more stripped back our style is, the more comfortable we are with who we are?! I remember when I was in my twenties, I was fascinated with layers and though the logical part of me reasons that this was just a time where I was experimenting with style, trying different things, there is also a part of me that questions whether or not there was a deeper meaning behind these sartorial experiments of mine! For many reasons, I felt unconnected from who I was and in a lot of ways and since my late twenties, the journey of self discovery, coming back to who I am on a soul level, whilst learning how to harness every single thing I had learned thus far, lead me to wonder whether if in those earlier years, all those layers, all those accessories (more was more and that was how I liked it) were they symbolic?! Maybe those layers were hiding the fact that underneath it all, I didn’t know who I was and, like an onion, I had to keep peeling those layers back until I found myself at the basics of who I was and yes I did just compare myself to an onion and I don’t think I’m okay with that analogy.

I have also wondered whether or not those layers were a subconscious protection, as a Cancer both our strength and shadow sides is our protectiveness. Sometimes our protective abilities can serve us and our loved ones but sometimes that same protectiveness can suffocate and restrict. At the time of this layering obsession, me and my family were going through a tremendously hard period, a lot of release, a lot of transformation energy, if a tarot card represented us at the time, it would have undoubtedly been “the tower” card! Could it be that the layers acted as a somewhat sartorial armour? Whereas now, though they are still daily stresses to navigate, I am much much more self aware, more understanding of change, less reluctant and more at one with allowing the natural ebb and flow of the universal energies to weave both lessons and magical synchronicities into my life. Could it be that in this comfortability, this awareness, this understanding of this challenging yet beautiful unfolding of life and all it has taught me, it is this that has lead to my more simplistic approach to styling.

Maybe there is a deeper meaning to our style choices, maybe not but either way I enjoy entertaining the thought. Ah I love this, a space where I can ramble on unapologetically, i’ve missed this. On instagram and socials in general, it’s now expected to keep everything with a one second attention span in mind but here I can just type like I talk.

Sending nothing but love, light and prosperity to you, Daniella x
